Outpace Training
Outpace Training is an immersive, multi-platform solution designed to uplift carers and raise industry standards. In response to the Aged Care Royal Commission's findings on poor training and systemic neglect, Outpace puts carers at the centre - offering accessible learning through VR, mobile, and desktop experiences.

TLDR;
Outpace Training wanted a personalised job marketplace for Aged Care workers - part of a broader platform built on training, LMS, accreditation, and employment. Our solution focused on a simple, accessible interface where carers and facilities could connect. Final wireframes impressed the Outpace team, showcasing verified accreditations, auto-matching, and intuitive navigation tailored to ESL users.
WHO I DESIGNED FOR
_edited.png)
This is June, she's committed ESL Aged Care worker in her late 50s who treats her residents like family. She’s eager to learn and grow but isn’t confident with technology. Overwhelmed by platforms like Seek, she relies on word of mouth for job leads and needs a simple, familiar way to find work and upskill.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Care workers, who are undervalued and under-supported want to see how accreditations can create opportunities to gain better employment but are unaware of the training they can get, or where to find these opportunities.
WHAT WAS GOING ON
RESEARCH
To design a platform that truly met June's needs, I analysed competitors and explored key features like gamification and ESL-friendly platforms to guide feature and accessibility decisions. These findings were backed by user surveys and interviews with carers to ensure relevance and impact.
INSIGHTS
Carers commonly use platforms like Seek but often rely on word of mouth for job leads. They value clear job requirements, email notifications, and are motivated by visible accreditation pathways. Many are not confident with technology - especially older carers - and prefer simple, familiar tools. Despite challenges, their dedication to patients remains strong, with a deep desire for support and growth.
"Companies asked for experiences but I don't know where should I start"
"I'm at an age where I'm too old to be contemplating nursing or anything else because I'll be over 60"
WHAT I LEARNED
ANALYSIS
I synthesised the research through affinity and empathy mapping, alongside journey mapping to understand how carers like June might interact with a job platform. Key themes emerged: users were often not tech-savvy, preferred simplicity and familiarity, and expressed a strong need for more workplace support and ongoing training.

HOW I GOT THERE
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
I explored solutions by framing How Might We questions and running a Crazy 8s ideation session with my team. We then used a Minimum Viable Product axis chart to prioritise ideas, align them to user needs, and guide the direction of our design.
-
How might we design an intuitive job marketplace for carers and facilities so that they can find jobs and recruit for jobs?
-
How might we allow the creation of a job profile for users with limited computer skills and limited English so that they can be considered for job opportunities?
-
How might we incorporate skills, accreditations and trust on profiles and job adverts to find a match in the marketplace?
-
How might we allow for filtered job searching for carers and job seekers so that they can find opportunities outside of market matching?
-
How might we validate accreditations for carers with education outside of Outpace so that all qualified carers get considered for opportunities?
-
How might we create easy job applications for carers with limited English or computer skills so that they can be confident applying?
-
How might we show further training / beneficial skillsets for unqualified carers so that they can see where to get qualified and the opportunities it provides?
AND ASKING THE QUESTIONS ...
(THAT'S A LOT OF HMW QUESTIONS)

BLUEPRINT
I developed four key user flows to reflect essential tasks for Aged Care job seekers - creating a profile, searching and applying for jobs, and exploring relevant training. These flows were informed by How Might We statements and translated into intuitive wireframes. Guided by our research, we designed a simple, step-by-step interface that felt familiar and accessible for non-tech-savvy users, clearly showing how buttons and interactions would guide them through the platform.

WHAT CAME OUT OF IT
In presenting our final tasks, wireframes, and project outcomes, the Outpace Training team was highly engaged with the proposed solution. They saw clear potential in how the design could support Aged Care job seekers - particularly ESL users like June - through a simple, familiar interface. The wireframes effectively delivered on the original design goals: a clear job marketplace, verified accreditation display, auto-matching between jobs and user profiles, and accessible navigation supported by iconography.
